Al Beatissimo Padre Papa Francesco,
alle Eminenze Reverendissime i Signori Cardinali di Santa Romana Chiesa,
alle Eccellenze Reverendissime i Signori Arcivescovi e Vescovi,
a dicembre (qui) dello scorso anno avevamo appreso che Mons. Heiner Wilmer (di Hildesheim, Germania) sarebbe stato nominato prefetto del Dicastero per la Dottrina della Fede
. Sempre nello stesso periodo avevamo, invece, avuto notizia che tale nomina sarebbe stata scartata anche per l'intervento di numerosi Cardinali e Vescovi che avevano, e hanno, a cuore la Chiesa e la Dottrina cattolica.
Purtroppo, in questi giorni, sembra che la candidatura di Mons. Wilmer sia tornata in auge, e a tempi brevi.
Ci permettiamo, sommessamente, di ricordare a Voi, tutti, come già facemmo il mese scorso, che la nomina del suddetto Mons. Heiner Wilmer sarebbe un disastro senza precedenti, in quanto lo stesso si è più volte e con pertinacia schierato contro la Chiesa stessa con affermazioni che, oltre che eretiche, sono al limite del delirio e ha pure sostenuto l'opera di Eugen Drewermann (qui), ex sacerdote cattolico, eretico e scismatico. Già questo sarebbe sufficiente per accantonare la nomina.
Con l'occasione ricordiamo qualche "uscita" di Mons. Wilmer:
- "Eugen Drewermann è un profeta del nostro tempo misconosciuto dalla Chiesa";
- "l'abuso di potere è nel DNA della Chiesa
"; - “A volte penso: chi determina esattamente cosa sia cattolico? Continuiamo a comportarci come se fosse la gerarchia, come se noi vescovi avessimo diritto all’etichetta cattolica. È sbagliato! Non siamo una Stiftung Warentest [un’organizzazione e fondazione tedesca per i consumatori che fa ricerche e compara prodotti e servizi senza pregiudizi, fondata nel 1964]. Dobbiamo essere destinatari e ascoltatori che imparano in dialogo con uomini e donne cattolici, ma anche con cristiani di altre confessioni e non credenti. Se questo è teologicamente chiaro, lo sono anche le conseguenze sullo scandalo degli abusi: per arginare il male nella Chiesa, occorre un effettivo controllo del potere nella Chiesa. Serve una distinzione di poteri, un sistema di “Checks and Balances” [il delicato sistema di controlli ed equilibri che caratterizza la democrazia].
In settembre, Mons. Wilmer ha votato a favore di una risoluzione del Cammino sinodale tedesco per cambiare la dottrina cattolica sulla sessualità e si è apertamente lamentato della sua mancata approvazione (QUI e QUI). Vi scriviamo, col cuore in mano, affinché sia evitata una tale sciagura alla Chiesa.

Open Letter: On the probable appointment of Bishop Wilmer as Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith

Reverend Excellencies, the Archbishops and Bishops,
In December (HERE) of last year we
learned that Bishop Heiner Wilmer of Hildesheim, Germany, was to be appointed prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine
of the Faith.
At the same time,
however, we received news that the appointment was discarded, in part because
of the intervention of numerous Cardinals and Bishops who had (and have) the
Church and Catholic Doctrine at heart.
Unfortunately, in
recent days, it seems that Bishop Wilmer’s candidacy is back in vogue and that his
appointment may be coming soon.
We would quietly like
to remind all of you, as we did last month, that the appointment of the
aforementioned Bishop Heiner Wilmer would be an unprecedented disaster, as he
has repeatedly and pertinaciously sided against the Church with statements that,
beyond being heretical, border on delusional, and has even supported the work
of Eugen Drewermann (here), a former Catholic priest, heretic and schismatic.
This alone would suffice
to set aside the appointment.
We take the
opportunity to recall several “remarks” made by Bishop Wilmer:

“Eugen
Drewermann is a prophet of our time who is misunderstood by the Church.”
· “Abuse
of power is in the Church’s DNA.”
·
“Sometimes
I think: who exactly determines what is Catholic? We keep acting as if it is
the hierarchy, as if we bishops are entitled to the Catholic label. This is
wrong! We are not a Stiftung Warentest [a German consumer organization and
foundation involved in investigating and comparing goods and services in an
unbiased way, founded in 1964]. We are to be receivers and listeners learning
in dialogue with Catholic men and women, but also with Christians of other
denominations and non-believers. If this is theologically clear, so are the
consequences on the abuse scandal: to curb evil in the Church, there needs to
be an effective check on power in the Church. We need a distinction of powers,
a system of ‘Checks and Balances’.”
Additionally, in
September 2022, Bishop Wilmer voted for a German Synodal Way resolution to
change Catholic doctrine on sexuality and openly lamented its failure to pass (here and here).
We are writing to
you from the heart, so that such a disaster for the Church may be avoided.
