Si tratta del testo di un documento approvato in occasione della Catholic Identity Conference, tenutasi a Pittsburgh dal 27 al 29 settembre ed alla quale hanno partecipato eminenti personalità religiose e laiche del mondo tradizionale, tra le quali mons. Athanasius Schneider, Vescovo ausiliare di Astana, e mons. Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo, Vescovo di Oyo. Luigi C.

Crediamo e professiamo con fede incrollabile ciò che il Magistero ordinario e universale della Chiesa ha insegnato perennemente e infallibilmente fin dai tempi degli Apostoli, cioè che la fede in Gesù Cristo, Figlio incarnato di Dio e unico Redentore del genere umano,è l’unica religione voluta da Dio.
Dopo l’istituzione della Nuova ed Eterna Alleanza in Gesù Cristo, nessuno può essere salvato mediante l’adesione agli insegnamenti e alle pratiche delle religioni non cristiane.
Perché «la preghiera, che è rivolta a Dio, deve essere collegata a Cristo, Signore di tutti gli uomini, unico Mediatore (1 Tm 2,5; Eb 8,6; 9,15; 12,24), e solamente attraverso Lui noi abbiamo accesso a Dio (Rm 5:2; Ef 2:18; 3:12).” (Ordinamento generale della Liturgia delle Ore, n. 6)
Crediamo fermamente che “non è altro nome sotto il cielo dato agli uomini, nel quale dobbiamo essere salvati” (At 4, 12), eccetto il nome del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo, che fu crocifisso e che Dio ha risuscitato dai morti (cfr At 4, 10).
Crediamo che è “contrario alla fede cattolica considerare la Chiesa come una via di salvezza accanto a quelle costituite dalle altre religioni, le quali sarebbero complementari alla Chiesa, anzi sostanzialmente equivalenti ad essa, pur, come se dice, convergenti con questa verso il Regno di Dio escatologico” (Congregazione per la Dottrina della Fede, Dichiarazione Dominus Iesus, 21).
Riteniamo inoltre che la Divina Rivelazione, fedelmente trasmessa dal perenne Magistero della Chiesa, vieta di affermare Che tutte le religioni sono vie verso Dio, Che la diversità delle identità religiose è un dono di Dio e Che la diversità delle religioni è espressione della sapiente volontà di Dio Creatore. Riteniamo, quindi, che i cristiani non siano semplicemente “compagni di viaggio” degli aderenti alle religioni false, che sono proibite da Dio.
Imploriamo con fervore l’aiuto della grazia divina per tutti quegli ecclesiastici di oggi che, con le loro parole e le loro azioni, contraddicono la verità divinamente rivelata su Gesù Cristo e sulla Sua Chiesa come l’unica via per mezzo della quale gli uomini possono raggiungere Dio e la salvezza eterna. Possano questi uomini di Chiesa, con l’aiuto della grazia divina, ritrattare pubblicamente questi errori, cosa necessaria per il bene della loro propria anima e delle anime altrui. Perché «non accogliere Cristo è il pericolo più grande per il mondo!». (Sant’Ilario di Poitiers, In Matth. 18).
Possano i Pastori della Chiesa, e in primo luogo Papa Francesco, per mezzo delle preghiere, delle lacrime e dei sacrifici di tutti i veri figli e figlie della Chiesa, e specialmente dei “piccoli” nella Chiesa, ricevere la grazia di emulare gli Apostoli, gli innumerevoli Martiri, numerosi Pontefici Romani e una moltitudine di Santi, soprattutto san Francesco d’Assisi, il quale fu un “uomo cattolico e tutto apostolico, che si adoperava personalmente ed ordinava ai suoi discepoli di impiegarsi con alacrità alla conversione degli infedeli alla fede e alla legge di Cristo”. (Papa Pio XI, Enciclica Rite Expiatis, 37)
Crediamo e, con la grazia di Dio, siamo pronti a dare la nostra vita per questa verità divina pronunciata da Gesù Cristo: “Io sono la via, la verità e la vita. Nessuno viene al Padre se non per mezzo di me” (Giovanni 14:6).

Profession of
Faith in Jesus Christ and His Church
as the only
path to God and to eternal salvation
We unshakably believe and profess what the ordinary
and universal Magisterium of the Church has continuously and infallibly taught
since the time of the Apostles, namely,
That faith in Jesus Christ,
the Incarnate Son of God and only Savior of mankind, is the only religion
willed by God.
After the institution of
the new and everlasting Covenant in Jesus Christ, no one may be saved by adherence
to the teachings and practices of non-Christian religions. Because “the prayer,
which is directed to God, must be linked with Christ, the Lord of all people,
the one Mediator (1 Tm 2:5; Heb 8:6; 9:15; 12:24) through whom alone we have
access to God (Rom 5:2; Eph 2:18; 3:12).” (General Instruction of the
Liturgy of the Hours, n. 6)
We firmly believe that
“there is no other name under heaven given to men, whereby we must be saved”
(Acts 4:12), except the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, who was crucified, whom
God hath raised from the dead (cf. Acts 4:10).
We believe that it is
“contrary to the Catholic faith to consider the Church as one way of
salvation alongside those constituted by the other religions, seen as
complementary to the Church or substantially equivalent to her, even if these
are said to be converging with the Church toward the eschatological kingdom of
God” (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Declaration Dominus Iesus, 21).
We furthermore hold that Divine Revelation,
faithfully transmitted by the Church’s perennial Magisterium, forbids affirming
That all religions are
paths to God,
That the diversity of
religious identities is a gift of God, and
That the diversity of
religions is an expression of the wise will of God the Creator.
We hold, therefore, that Christians are not simply “travelling companions” along with adherents
of false religions — which God forbids.
We fervently implore the
help of Divine grace for all those churchmen today who, by their words and deeds, contradict
the Divinely revealed truth about Jesus Christ and His Church as
the only path by which men can reach God and eternal salvation. With the
help of divine grace, may these churchmen be enabled to offer a
public retraction, required for the good of their own soul and the souls of others. For “not accepting Christ is the greatest
danger for the world!” (St. Hilary of Poitiers, In Matth. 18).
By the prayers, tears and
sacrifices of all the true sons and daughters of the Church, and especially of
the “little ones” in the Church, may the Shepherds of the Church, and first and
foremost Pope Francis, receive the grace to emulate the Apostles, countless
Martyrs, numerous Holy Roman Pontiffs and a multitude of Saints, especially St.
Francis of Assisi, who “was a Catholic and an entirely apostolic man,
who set about personally and commanded his disciples to occupy themselves before everything else with the conversion of
the heathen to the Faith and Law of Christ.” (Pope Pius XI, Encyclical Rite Expiatis, 37)
We believe and, with
God’s grace, are ready to give our lives for this Divine truth pronounced by
Jesus Christ: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man comes to the
Father except through me” (John 14:6).
